Onwards and Upwards!

I’m part way through a review of the first draft of the main guide for Podcast-Monetizer. The first draft was basically a brain dump of all the stuff I thought I’d like to include, pretty much thrown together in a stream of consciousness.
As I go through the review, I’ve started to organise the structure of the document into a more logical fashion and it’s caused a number of effects.
One is to reduce the word count! I’ve spotted some duplications and stuff that really didn’t need to be in there. I really want to keep the document to the matter in hand and not pad it out with superfluous stuff. It’s a bit disheartening to see the word count go down!
The second is to expose more areas I need to cover. Now that I’ve started to pull the structure of the document together it’s made me more aware of what is covered and what needs to be expanded.
The main thing that I’ve realised is that I need to create a phased approach to the implementation of the back-end systems. Obviously, I’ve had over 12 months to implement the systems I use daily for ScreenCastsOnline so I’ve been able to introduce and tweak the various components over time. It’s obvious that I need to replicate this phased approach in the guide so you don’t become overwhelmed with the task in hand.
So I’ve identified the core components that I feel are needed to get a Premium Podcast system in place and allow you to start taking revenue. I’ll be concentrating on these core systems to make sure that when the guide is available you’ll be able to hit the floor running. These core components include the Payment Gateway and the Membership Database system, together with the secure access to the podcast RSS feeds. Of course, it will also include the various bits of integration that allow the system to be as automated as possible.
Once this core infrastructure is in place, the other elements can be bolted on later.
PS The tool I’m using to write and organise this stuff is Scrivener on the Mac. What a fantastic piece of software! It makes it so much easier to organise and review.
